About Politicized

Hey there!

Thanks for stumbling upon my site! I began Politicized (originally Politicised.com) in May 2020 during the first of many Covid-19 lockdowns. What started out as a fun pastime quickly developed into a passion, allowing me to explore many of the issues that often go overlooked in English-language media. I am currently no longer writing for Politicized.

What is Politicized?

Politicized was a blog that aimed to provide political and economic educational content from a left-leaning perspective. I tried to make my content half journalistic, half academic, with a dose of satire sprinkled in here and there. I focused in particular on the issues of young people and future generations, most notably wealth inequality and climate change. I mainly wrote about the United States, the United Kingdom, France and the EU more generally.

Why “Politicized”?

I chose the name Politicized for two reasons: firstly, and most obviously, the domain name was available (and catchy!); secondly, I believe that the term “politicized” captures a central theme in many of the pieces you will find on my blog. To become “politicized” or the act of politicization is to render something or someone political. My personal “political awakening” if you will has been transformative in my own life, and it these findings that I wish to share with you through my articles.

Here’s a little bit more about me…

Raised in the United States, I have always been deeply affected by the inequalities I saw around me. As I grew older, I began to ask more and more questions that my conservative father didn’t seem to have the answers to. Why is college in the United States so expensive? Why don’t Americans have access to universal healthcare? Why are some countries rich while others are poor? As an adult, my mission to make sense of the world took me to France, as well as a few other European countries, where I was able to more formally study the social sciences (for a fraction of the cost, might I add).

I was eventually able to complete a BA in Political Science and a BSc in Mathematics and Economics (so, as you can see, I like to think that I know a little something about the subjects I write about). Politicized was my attempt to answer many of the questions I had as a teenager and a young adult. It was as much a documentation of my own political discovery as an attempt to share some of my findings with you, the public. Humanity collectively faces some very real threats, from wealth inequality to climate change to nuclear war. My deepest hope for my life is that my writing can be as much a source of knowledge as a spur for positive action.

If you’ve had the chance to read any of my articles, it should be clear that I’m left-leaning, highly critical of neoliberalism and the current economic orthodoxy (more about that here), and generally just a proponent of a more egalitarian society. I’m particularly passionate about labor rights and the welfare state, urban planning, and climate change. Just a note: as this is my own blog, please keep in mind that my content is going to be biased. I do not claim to be non-partisan (and frankly, you should be skeptical of any think tank that claims to be so). This website does not use cookies or ads.

If interested, my personal website can be found here. I hope you enjoy my writing.
