About Politicized

Hey there!

Thanks for stumbling upon my site! My name is Genevieve Delorenzo. I began Politicized (originally Politicised.com) in May 2020 during the first of many Covid-19 lockdowns. What started out as a fun pastime has quickly developed into a passion, allowing me to explore many of the issues that often go overlooked in English-language media.

What is Politicized?

Politicized is a platform for independent journalism that aims to provide political and economic educational content for all. I strive to adequately convey the issues of young people and future generations in particular, most notably wealth inequality and climate change. I mainly write about the United States, the United Kingdom, France and the EU more generally. All ideas are my own unless stated otherwise.

Why “Politicized”?

I chose the name Politicized for two reasons: firstly, and most obviously, the domain name was available (and catchy!); secondly, I believe that the term “politicized” captures a central theme in many of the pieces you will find on my blog. To become “politicized” or the act of politicization is to render something or someone political. My personal “political awakening” if you will has been transformative in my own life, and it these findings that I wish to share with you through my articles.

Here’s a little bit about myself…

A citizen of both the UK and the US, I was raised in Southern California, near Los Angeles. When I was 18, I attended New York University before quickly realizing that not only was I unwilling to pay some of the highest tuition fees in the country let alone the world (more about that here), but that I wanted something different entirely out of my life.

With my UK passport in hand, I decided to make the most of my EU citizenship before Brexit was due to set in (the referendum took place about one month after my 18th birthday). I’ve since had the opportunity to study and work in Italy, the UK, France, and the Netherlands, experiences for which I am tremendously grateful. I was eventually able to complete a BA in Political Science, and I am currently finishing up a BSc in Mathematics and Economics.

The opportunities I’ve had over the past 6 years have been instrumental in shaping my political views. If you’ve had the chance to read any of my articles, it should be clear that I’m left-leaning, highly critical of neoliberalism and the current economic orthodoxy (more about that here), and generally just a proponent of a more egalitarian society. I’m particularly passionate about “citizen journalism”, labor rights and the welfare state, urban planning, and climate change.

On my less (although still quite) nerdy side, I enjoy cycling and spending time outdoors, fermenting my own kimchi, reading fiction and graphic novels, rewatching old episodes of The Simpsons, and traveling as much as I can. My personal website can be found here

I hope you enjoy my work.
